champagne
is there any reason why the people here can't already be the basis for a society?
a mixed science bag.
supernova (deja vu?)
i wonder, will you listen to this song on the radio again? why do i feel we've been here before.
there's no reason. we just need to find an independent territory to declare it ours.
oasis
i honestly can't remember how that song goes.
well, let's do it. if it doesn't work, well, it doesn't work. and if it does, a conference in the canary islands
desert
not missing much to be honest then who should we address the application form to?
dessert
bigger question... how do we actually start up a society?
sweet
alright, i believe we need to do this:
<*>you get a group of people together
<*>establish the purpose of the society
<*>set positions, i.e. president, secretary and so on
<*>get members to join
<*>organise meetings
and that's it i think...

•you get a group of people together
- we have that already. yes, it's cyber space, but it's still a group of people.
•establish the purpose of the society
- an excuse to have a conference in the canary islands (and more beach side places to follow). but for the seriousness aspect, something to do with allowing researchers from all fields to discuss the common objectives and common goals associated when working in the sciences (or something... i'm looking on a microscope at the moment, so i'm not really thinking.)
•set positions, i.e. president, secretary and so on
- president - The Bioforum? or Dr Hobs (he seems to be the most senior) or us?
- secretary - see above. eh, positions can be worked out later.
•get members to join
- if you join, you get a cookie.
•organise meetings
- canary islands, september 2012
fist size
and i suppose you would want to make this as democratic as possible, so that the members feel integrated in the society. one thing i forgot is the creation of a journal or something similar to present regularly what the society is up to.
so we're almost all set
glove
an online newsletter or magazine - every 6 months or so. all articles are written by members of the society (voluntary, covering most topics). circulation via email or facebook (no need to print the thing).
democracy... how about an online system where they can nominate and vote for issues... ooh, the facebook page can be the voting both.
funding... a small subscription fee, and lots of begging from big companies.
globe
that's an option, or also use the blog option supplied by bf. the best way to do elections would be via a poll. and then the funding... always the funding...
