well Mlle C...even if the abstract and hypotheses and all that won't fit anymore to the announcement...who cares, mention that that you present something different, better, because of whatever reasons (no idea about the topic)...a short remark and that's it.
and then eat the tiramisu and drink some grappa

I didn't get what you wrote...mention what and to whom?...actually what I also don't understand is how you could change from an oral presentation to a poster 2 weeks before you go? Usually, when you submit the abstract, you already chose how you want to present it or the conference committee will decide for you. If it was accepted as oral then it shld be an oral presentation....

yes I thought the same, and I thought the abstract is already there and more or less published or printed...but then it's not that big deal to change the presentation, if you have a good reason of course, but it depends how you "sell" it to the audience... The topic will be the same, but a more exciting hypothesis is experimentally proven...or whatever
TJ will manage it anyway, whatever it will be...

but it's his supervisor who doesn't want him to present...or did I read it wrong...anyways, tj will manage it for sure....and we're the cheering squad......enjoy your day sweetie...

yes cas, you're right, and yes hobs you're right as well. the abstract was accepted as a presentation. the idea of changing it to a poster is from my supervisor and said she would email the chair of the session to announce i wouldn't give a presentation if we can't fit the results we have to what the abstract said (typical...).
this situation reminds me so much of the times when i was doing my masters and exactly the same situation happened, only that time it was a poster and my supervisor didn't want me to go at all. didn't want to go through all the traumatization again. i almost couldn't stop laughing when i saw the first abstract draft and then the "corrected" version...
anyway, thanks guys. it's been a good rant.

but you couldn't have changed the results or did you? Then it means your results where so prelimary that the new data you produced after you had sent the abstract refuted or changed your initial findings. Or she just changed the conclusions based on the initial results you got? Anyways, you still have the option of a poster tj so think about it...don't be traumatised by a poster...

I don't know anymore cas, I think I've blocked it from my head. Good night my canadian friend.

then just forget it, tj....not worth losing your hair over.......have a good night then and you'd feel better tomorrow...

and a weird supervisor...students should give talks or have posters and they have to support that it works...
