"Surviving Your Stupid Stupid Decision to Go to Grad School"

How about "origin of species"?

From the inventor of PCR, the Nobel prize Kary Mullis: Dancing Naked in the Mind Field Mullis is no shy, socially inept bench chemist, though; on the contrary, he has led as big and full a life as possible, opening himself to experiences like hallucinogenic drugs, surfing, casually handling dangerous chemicals, and taking shots at the sacred cows of science.

LOL Adrian. Who is the author? I'll look into that one.

Other good ones:

Y: Descent of Man
Mendel's Dwarf (some R-rated parts, didn't care for those)
Best Science Writing of(pick your year, anthology of essays on different sciences)

Paul de Kruif - Microbe Hunters... I read it... such a nice one.

I found the books by Michael J Fox pretty inspiring--not straight science, but about medical research in general. Another good one is the seven daughters of eve by bryan sykes.
