Overview: Xenograft tumors ("xeno-" means foreign. It comes from the Greek word "xenos" meaning stranger, guest, or host.) can be grown in nude mice, SCID (severe combined immune deficiency) mice or nude rats. These tumor models allow human tumors to be studied in another animal.

This video protocol demonstrates procedures for establishing orthotopic mouse models of colorectal cancer, including two methods: injection of a colorectal cancer cell suspension into the cecal wall and transplantation of a piece of subcutaneous tumor onto the cecum.
