RNA storage - -20 or-70°C? (Aug/20/2005 )

I´ve just done an RNA extraction (using TRIZOL) for the first time, and my yield was pretty good, according to gel electrophoresis results. I stored the total RNA at -20°C, for the whole weekend. I dont know if this will degrade my RNA!
Please any answers will help
THANKS!

Hi,

I don' think storing RNA at -20 for only 2 days will degrade it because it can be stored at -20 for short term studies but from now on you'd better to keep it at -80 smile.gif

See you.

The stability of RNA is also dependent on what you are extracting from.
Some specimen (e.g. pancrease) has a lot of RNase.
The stability of extracted RNA would be lower with these types of samples.

Both -80C and -20C should be fine for several days.
It is recommended to keept at -80C for long term storage.
