antibiotics cell transfection - transfection (Aug/18/2005 )

hi anyone knows
why is not recommended to add antibiotics during cell transfection? what way it interferes with transfection?

i culture my transfected cells on plates with antibiotic. its no problem

i also mostly do transfection using PEI/lipofectamine in SFM w/o antibiotics, during the first 5 hr incubation.This time i suspect mild contamination,so I added antibiotics during the first 5 hrs incubation,and found a drop in transfection.
Also any transfection reagent PEI/liofectamine always mention that not to add antibiotics .But they don't give any reason behind it.So iam curious to know what is happening?
