cuvettes for spectrophotometry - (Jul/30/2005 )

Hey all

What type of cuvette is used for measurements in the visible range of the spectrum and why?

Thanks smile.gif

mostly used are one-time use plastic cuvettes, since these are completely diaphanous for visible light

We have a reusable one made out of glass. We've had problems with the disposable plastic ones, but that's largely due to incompatibility with the sample chamber (it's not a tight fit, and the wobble introduced artifacts between cuvettes).

We use re-usable quartz cuvettes that have been around in the lab for longer than I have been alive! They're pretty expensive, but as long as you don't drop them or scratch them they'll last forever.
I agree with aludlam in that some of the older spec machines don't seem to hold the newer plastic tubes very well. Depends on your machine smile.gif
