southern blotting help/question - (Jul/22/2005 )

I am screening ES cells and have about 15 southern membranes and I want to put 4-5 per tube to hyb. I remember that in the past I separated the membranes by a mesh plastic "screen" with pore sizes around that of stocking hose. Anyone have any idea where I can buy this or any suggestion of what I can use instead? thanks in advance. dry.gif

How large is your membrane? If every single piece is small enough, you can roll them slightly and put them into 50 mL Falcon Tube --- they will stick on the inner wall.

they are about 15cm X 15cm. rather large.

If you type "hybridization mesh" into google, you'll find a lot of hits. Labnet and ISC Bionet both have it, e.g.

From memory you can use fine mesh curtain material. It will be much cheaper than any "hybridization" mesh.
