Fluorophores - PE alternative (Jun/06/2005 )

I need to label an antibody with PE. However, in the interest of time and ease I am unable to do so. Can someone recomment a fluorophore with a similar spectral excitation/emission which I can use instead - like one of the Alexas for example??

THANK YOU~

Hi MaximinaNYC,

I haven't used it but I believe Alexa Fluor 546 shares the excitatio/emission spectrum of PE. You can check it out on the Molecular Probes site: http://probes.invitrogen.com/resources/spectraviewer/.

Hope this helps.

It does but apparently it's excitation isn't as wide and it cannot be excited with the 488 laser ... argggggh!

You haven't got any other filters to try, becuase I'm unaware of anything that will give you excitation at 488nm and emission at around 550nm if you could push your emission later there is alternatives. Otherwise I think you are stuck with PE.
