RNA storage and shippment - (Apr/29/2005 )

Hello,

I've just started doing DNA and RNA extractions and I need to transport the DNA and RNA overseas. I will vac dry the DNA but have been told I cannot do this with RNA. All info i have read is for storage at -20 or -80. Any suggestions on anything i can do to avoid that???

Thanks!

hi
i would put the RNA sample in a sealed vial in the middle of plenty dry ice.
that will do the job for Two days...

dry ice is now banned for international export --- I am also interested in sending RNA overseas. I have used the normal gel ice packs

Just as an aside ........ We found a shipper that can export material on dry ice international (Fedex et al won't do it) - World Courier. They aren't particularly cheap but the do an outstanding job

I´ve just done an RNA extraction (using TRIZOL) for the first time, and my yield was pretty good, according to gel electrophoresis results. I stored the total RNA at -20°C, the whole weekend. I dont know if this will degrade my RNA!
Please any answers will help
THANKS!

Hi,

I don' think storing RNA at -20 for only 2 days will degrade it because it can be stored at -20 for short term studies but from now on you'd better to keep it at -80

See you.

We regularly send stuff between Europe and America, also within Europe, on dry ice. With Fedex as well. Not sure why they won't do it for you.

Hi,
I shipped in 3V absolute ethanol with normal ice packs overnight.
Than, ppt with naoac. I did not check the quality, but I think it should be fine, RNA se would not work in 75% etoh.
