PCR off of Genomic DNA problems! - -why is my gene without introns showing up?- (Apr/18/2005 )

I think the title pretty much says it all.

I did genomic DNA extraction
Amplified with PCR

When i ran it on a gel i can see very clearly that my gene without introns is ALSO present along with my gene WITH introns.

Anyone have any ideas why this is so?

Am i forgetting some basic genetics and need to be reminded? haha...

Any response is appreciated!!

Thanks,

could it be a pseudogene within the genome. ie: a copy of the gene but in an inactive form?

Hi,

Sorry, I could not get it. How did you come to the conclusion about the identity of the extra band in your gel? Did you sequence it to verify?

hi
but how do u know its the gene without introns, if you work with genomic DNA? couldn't it be some nonspecific amplification
