sense and antisense - (Jan/02/2009 )

Hi,

The antisense strand is the strand that results in the production of a protein. So, if a mutation is not significant if it occurs in this strand?

I've cloned my gene of interest into a vector and upon sequencing I find a mutation using the reverse primer (i;ve ordered teh forward prmer and shall seq in this dircetion as well).

Thanks

Sorry, what I meant was

How can you tell if the mutation is in the SENSE or ANTISENSE strand.

Thanks

sense or antisense....
DNA is made of two complementary anti parallel strands.

If there is a mutation on one DNA strand you will see a mutation with the complementary base on the other. ie both DNA strands will be mutated.
