Glycine in blocking solution - (Dec/17/2008 )

Hi,

I'm trying an immunohistochemistry protocol using abcam rat anti BrdU mAb.
According to one of the protocols, the blocking solution contains glycine (1M).
Does anyone know what is the purpose of glycine here?

Thanks!

to block potential protein binding sites? as glycine is acidic, is the recommended block solution buffered to a neutral or light basic pH?

Yes, it's a 1 hr incubation prior to primary Ab incubation.
The protocol says nothing about buffering...
The solution is Glycine (1M) + 5% normal goat serum in PBS + 1% Triton X.

Thanks

Glycine binds to and removes aldehydes left over from the fixation step.
