I am beginning to pre cast my own gels using 15% polyacrylamide and im wondering if i have to use bind-silane on the glass plates? Its not mentioned in the procedure but i have other people telling me that that is what i have to use. Thanks

Unless you plan to remove the gel and submit it or dry it on vacuum, you don't need bind-silane. (for example- no need for western transfer)

I used the repel-silane to one of the glasses only, because is easier to take out the plates. In this way no tears in the gel. The gels usually sticks to glasses so you could use bind and repel to make sure that the gel will no move from one of the plates (for take out from plate must use a bath of NaOH 5M) or just use the repel.

I'd go with the repel, rather than bind silane, because clean-up is easier; bind silane works a bit too well when you clean the plate for re-use!!!

I've never done anything but wash my plates with ethanol or isopropanol before casting and I've used the gels for transfers, Westerns, and drying.
