MOPS vs TAE or TBE - (Oct/28/2008 )

Hi guys,

I will be performing Northern Blotting soon. So currently I am establishing the protocol.

There is a question that I hope some one can help.

Must I use MOPS buffer for running the gel for Northern Blotting? Can I use TAE or TBE buffer instead? What are the differences

between the buffers, and also the quality of the result too.

MOPs northern buffers usually contain denaturing agents such as formamide and formaldehyde during the running steps. I think the denatring agents will not work so effectively in TAE or TBE due to the pH and possibly the salt content.
