About SDS - (Sep/24/2008 )

Hi all,

does SDS bind to proteins only at 100 ºC,
or
is it able to bind protein also at room temperature?

Thanks

you think in terms of SDS sample buffer; if you do not like to denature proteins by boiling, you may use 60°C or 37°C; the lower the temperature the longer the incubation time; for 37°C I would incubate for 1h but care for possible proteolysis!

Thanks, it is for my knwoledge

then can I conclude that SDS can bind (independently of incubation time)
well-structured proteins at room temperature?

Yes, I am pretty sure it does due to its polar/unpolar chemical characteristics.
