The role of salt in DNA precipitation - (Sep/23/2008 )

Hello,
I am wondering what is the role of salt( such as sodium acetate) in DNA precipitation. I forgot to add salt to DNA when I do the precipitation. I am wondering if it will cause problem.
Thank you

In my opinion, the role of salt is to bind with DNA in order to precipitate. you know DNA contains negative charge with it and they repel each other, and the salt with positive charge will neutralize some of the negative charge. then they can easily precipate.

hope anyone could give some other explanation!

I forgot to add salt when i did the precipitation. Will it cause problem?
