exogenous and ectopic protein expression - what's the difference (Sep/10/2008 )

Hi,

I'm a bit confused. A paper has described the ubiquitination of exogenous protein in transiently and stably transfected cell line and hte ubiquitination of endogenous protein in a cell line.

what are exogenous proteins?

exogenous protein is something which has been introduced like after transfection or viral infection. Endogenous which is present in the cell naturally without any modifications.
