RPS18 = 18s rRNA ? - (Jul/08/2008 )

hi everyone,

i want to design primer for a candidate housekeeping gene after having read a paper where they use 18S rRNA to normalize degraded RNA.

now i'm wondering wether the ribosomal protein s18 is the same as 18s rRNA. so, when i design primer for the RPS18sequence can i detect 18s rRNA? i'm a litte confused wacko.gif

No its not the same. 18S rRNA is a non-translated RNA and a part of the ribosomal RNA "scaffold". to my knowledge, a ribosomal protein is a protein that attaches to this RNA scaffold.

but nevertheless, you can find the 18s rRNA sequence here (for humans) wink.gif
