test the knockdown effficiency with siRNA before transfection with lentivirus? - (Jun/27/2008 )

I wanna use lentivirus system to inhibit a gene of interest. Can I test the knockdown efficiency of several candidates (DNA encoding shRNA) by transient transfection with corresponding siRNA? I mean, we may test the knockdown efficiency of siRNA like this first, and then, choose the efficient one, ligate the corresponding DNA encoding shRNA into the lentivirus system, in spite of the influence of the loop of shRNA temporarily as the construction of several lentivirus system is so difficult.
