How to find DNA sequence upstream of gene? - (May/28/2008 )

The promoter for a certain gene is located -500 nucleotides upstream of the transcription initiation site. What database can I use to find this stretch of sequence?

I tried doing a BLAST, but it doesn't tell you the DNA sequence upstream of the gene (i.e. where the promoter region may be).

Try this web site:http://www.ensembl.org/index.html
you can choose the organism you are intersted in ,search for your gene of interest, go to contigview. then find in the overview box your gene clique on it then on the gene name and you can then choose fron intron exon 5'seq.....
good luck
