Horizontal Vs. vertical IEF…? - which one is better (Mar/23/2008 )

I recently came across a method of IEF..which recommend use of horizontal IEF method. is there any advantage of horizontal IEF run over vertical..? if so what are they ??

it's not really that significant but horizontal defeats the effects of gravity on the running of the gel.

and

you can load your sample anywhere on the gel that you choose. with vertical you can only load at the top or add it to the gel solution (you might denature it during the polymerization, i only point it out because you do this for liquid column ief).
