TE buffer exposed in the air overnight...is it all right for use? - TO DISSOLVE DNA (Mar/14/2008 )

i left my bottle of TE buffer exposed in the air overnight without cap .....

i wonder if it is all right for me to still use it to dissolve DNA....

i know it's a minor question and the TE buffer may not be affected at all
still want a double check

thanks~

it may be a little dusty and a little more concentrated (due to evaporation) but it will probably be okay (maybe you should filter it to get rid of that dust?).

I think except water this is the cheapest liquid in the lab. At least cheaper than extracting new DNA, so to be at the safe side I would be discard it and use a new solution. But the other possibility is also okay.

It would probably be ok, but I wouldn't use it to disolve DNA. what if when you have to run your DNA in a gel you get bands you didn't expected? Even if possibilities are low, it doesn't take too long to prepare new one...... wacko.gif

I've seen stuff grow in a very old solution of Tris before believe it or not. It might not have been buffer TE but it was Tris. It's so cheap, just make a new solution.

If its not urgent, use it. Else I would make a fresh one.

We usually had a 10x TE solution and would make up 1x TE in small quantitites.

I will make a new one, if not urgently needed. wink.gif

thanks everyone!!!

finally i decided to use dH2O to dissolve DNA rather than TE
