WB vs ELISA ? - (Nov/18/2007 )

does any antibody that is provided for WB works for ELISA?

As long as the (linear) epitope is on the surface, you should get some response wit hit. However, the epitope could be in such a position that it's not always accessible to the Ab, or it could be internal, and therefore complpetely hidden. If your question comes for a lack of funds, all you can do is give it a shot and see what happens.

in many cases companies test their Ab´s for suitability of immunologic techniques; Ab´s for Wb detect epitopes in denaturized polypeptides, ELISA detects epitopes of native polypeptides/proteins; denaturized proteins offer more or different epitopes than native ones
