How many assays a week? - (Nov/06/2007 )

How many assays do you guys do per week in average? and what is the expected number of assays that an undergrad is expected to do per week. I usually go 2 assays per week. I will start on Monday for the first assay, then finish on Wednesday. Then Thursday start another one. But then I will have to go to school on saturday. Just curious how everyone manage their time.

you'll need to be a bit more specific

I do not know which assays you mean but do as many as necessary and as it is handable; try to interlace different assays over the day

It depends on what experiments you are doing. Some take longer than others and some are more complicated than others. It also depends on your class and personal schedule. You will find that each PI is different, will have different expectations of people in their lab and different levels of sympathy and understanding to other responcibilities you may have. You really need to talk to your boss to make sure you are meeting the expectations. However, this field requires a great deal of self-motivation. How hard are you willing to work? How late are you willing to stay? It's got to be inside you and you have to be willing to do more without an arm-twisting. After all, it's your work, your reputation and your future.. not your PI's.
