Gene without stop codon - (Nov/01/2007 )

Hi All,

This might sound a stupid question but please tell me..................

what will happen if I clone a gene without stop codon and try to express it?

Please tell me all the possible answers.

I would say you will have a strange longer protein until it founds a stop codon by chance.
It's not a good idea.

Agree with Misele, the gene will be expressed until it finds a stop codon. Does your vector has a stop codon? are you wanting to tag your protein?
if the answers are no, then i will strongly recomend you include the stop codon.

Abnormal proteins could be degraded very fast and your results might not make sense.

Thanks all.
