why express mamallian proteins in DH5alpha ? - (Aug/28/2007 )
I've seen a number of papers recently where people have used DH5alpha cells for expression and purification of mammalian proteins. As I understand DH5alpha cells are mainly for cloning and are a high copy number cell line. Is it because the proteins are toxic to E coli when expressed in large quantities under a T7 promoter in BL21s.
Thanks

There is no special reason that DH5 alpha should be especially useful in expressing mammalian proteins (as far as I know). Most likely the proteins were just cloned in this bug and the expression worked so there was no need to change from it.
