Western blot liquids - what is really toxic? (Aug/09/2007 )

Hi!
I've just been told that liquid developer for western blot autoradiographies is toxic.
I worked for more than 2 years in a dark room manually developing western blots without any hood...should I be worried?
thanks!

well these are acids. So vapors are corrosive for lungs.
But working with them don't seem to me very nefast for human body. Just make sure your nose isn't right over the baths.
you may check a medical advice if you're really scared or if you have lung chronic irritation / asthm

I agree. Unless you were breathing the developer fumes in deeply and were exposed to it all day long, I wouldn't worry at all.
