Coomassie -Papain - (Jul/15/2007 )

Hi everyone,
We noticed that papain (21kDa) does not stain in electrophoresis (SDS or Native) with Coomassie and the same gels give a blur with Silver Staining. excl.gif We run the samples in different concentrations and we always have the same problem. No info on biblio. Has anybody had similar problems ??? I would appreciate ANY answer
THANKS!

I used to work with a small membrane protein that did not stain with coomassie, but would stain with sypro. We put it down to the very high hydrophobic amino acid content, which coomassie has trouble attaching to. Don't know if tis helps you...

Sorry, I mean SILVER. not sypro!

Thanks Andrew, we have tried silver and it is a bit weird. But I always do it after coomassie, I will try again!
Thanks!
