SYBR Green Nucleic Acid Gel Stain - alternative for EtBr? (Jun/29/2007 )

Hi!

do you have any experiences with the alternative DNA stain "SYBR Green Nucleic Acid Gel Stain"?
It's been a discussion about it in the lab and we're thinking about to use it instead of Ethidium-bromide.

What are the Pro and Cons?

Thank you :o)

Hello. I use sybr green all the time because I need a lower detection limit for nucleic acids than ethidium bromide. So the pro is the detection limit. The only cons are the price, which is significantly more than ethidium bromide, and the extra time it takes to stain the gel. So I use both, which is completely dependent on my needs at the time.
