pregnancy induced hypertension - PIH (Jun/28/2007 )

can anyone please tell me about PIH biomarkers???

Blood pressure!

Also, you'd do renal function, so "U's and E's" (called UE). This has sodium and potassium to tell you if the glomerulus is ok and urea and creatinine to check out the tubules.

You'd also measure urinary glucose and protein. High pressure drives up the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and can damage the glomerulus and tubules such that they leak glucose and proteins. Some labs will measure total protein others will do albumin. The reccomendations are for microalbumin in diabetics (including gestational diabetics who may have hypertension). The rest of us just get total protein.

Hope that helps.
