Bacterial housekeeping genes - What genes are commonly used as housekeeping controls in expression st (Jun/22/2007 )

Hello,

I am measuring expression of two genes in a gamma proteobacterium, under different growth conditions. We have a hypothesis that these genes are expressed differentially depending on growth conditions, and so I am testing this hypothesis. I will be using reverse-transcription QPCR to determine the amount of transcript in each culture.

I would like to normalize the numbers that I get, to a transcript that is expressed at a steady level (a housekeeping gene). I don't have a good idea of what gene would be appropriate.

Are there some genes that are universally recognised as decent housekeeping genes? I am working with a gamma proteobacterium.

in my case i use actin or pgk gene
