What does 1 kb DNA ladder mean. Its mean Its highest band is of one 1 kb.

-samita-

It means its major increment is 1 kb. It may be something like that: 250 bp, 500 bp, 750 bp, 1 kb, 2 kb, 3 kb, 4 kb, etc.

can you please provide the name of manufacturar of 100bp DNA ladder that is common in use??

-T. reesei-

the bands make a ladder of 1kb. From neb it's 500bp, 1kb, 1.5, 2 3 4 5 6 8 and 10kpb
bright band is 3kpb.

The NEB 2 log ladder has the advantage of not having to think. It has 100 bp bands less than 1 Kb, 1200, 1500, and 1Kb bands above that to 10 Kb. Bands 1000 and 3000 are bright. 7000 and 9000 are omitted. Except for very short fragments, this always works.

-phage434-

I agree with phage434 100%.

In addition to that stated by phage434, I like it because each band is quantified and is helpful in assessing the DNA amounts on gel.

we use this ladder for small DNA fragment

-T. reesei-

Different company with different 1kb. Have to check their brochure or catalogue.

NEBs 2-log is also a ladder of choice in our lab.
Only for longer templates we use Lambda-HindIII digest, also from NEB, but it's not quantified.

Lambda-hind3 ladder is also quantified. We used to have one in my old lab which was quantified. I am not sure if it was from NEB or not.
