Have you checked the New England Biolabs catalogue? It usually has heaps of that kind of information.

Yeah, NEB always has good info about this. I use GM2163 from NEB, but I think that they have newer strains for dam- now.

Wondering the same thing. Looked at neb web-catalogue but did not find what you talk about (is it a list with all + and - strains?)

The strain I wonder about is from invitrogen (Mach1). I have looked at the product sheet but do not find anything about it...

err no. You have a list of strains (also in promgea or other webstes) and for each genotype is described.

One more hint...? (I'll go crazy, I do not find my bacteria!)

-Ammie-

Hello Ammie,

some common strains' genotypes are also listed in wikipedia:

http://openwetware.org/wiki/E._coli_genotypes

There you can find a short and nice description of the nomenclature, too.

Mach1 from Invitrogen: ΔrecA1398 endA1 tonA Φ80ΔlacM15 ΔlacX74 hsdR(rK- mK+)

On the website of invitrogen you can also find the genotypes in the manuals (if you don't have a printed one).

Greetings,
Chakchel

Thanks Chrackel!

I found that information also but I guess that the problem is that I do not really know how to interpret it... So if one property is not mensioned, that means that it is the wildtype? (dam+ for mach1 for example)?

That's right Ammie.

Only the mutant alleles are mentioned in the genotype. More info here if required.
