SCAR-PCR - (May/18/2007 )

Just out of curiousity, does anyone of you guys know what SCAR-PCR is?

Thanks in advance smile.gif

I am no expert but I have a basic idea:

SCAR stands for sequence characterized amplified regions.
The idea is to design molecular probes for different strains of bacteria or funghi by first doing a PCR with a common set of primers, than sequencing the porducts and designing primers specific for the amplified regions of every strain. I think that it is mainly used for the distinguish wildtype strains of funghi or bacteria from manufactured ones (e.g. biocontrol types of Trichoderma).

Please correct me if I am completely mistaken...
