How to use salmon sperm - (Nov/10/2003 )

I want to do the gene transfection of HepG2 with Effectene Transfection Reagent. But it is said in the website of Qiagen that "Used salmon sperm DNA (150ng) with the plasmid. Added 3x more plasmid than recommended. If salmon sperm DNA was omitted, efficiency decreased to 5%."
Now i have purchased salmon sperm powder from sigma. But it is so sorry that i do not know how to treat and how to use salmon sperm. Shoud i filter it or precipitation it with ethanol?

You should purchase sonicated salmon sperm DNA which can be used without further preparation in transfection. I don't know what the power you bought is. Check out this paper:
