Shelf Life of TBE and TAE buffers - how long do they last? (Apr/05/2007 )

what's the shelf life of these two buffers? regardless of the concentration..

thnx

depends, after autoclaving, did anyone open the bottle?

1x TAE opened to atmosphere doesn't last long, maybe about a week before something funny starts growing in it. 50X TAE on the other hand will last at 3 weeks (probably more) when opened to the atmosphere.

Autoclaved and sealed in abottle both buffers will last indefinately.

Bacteria grow very much more poorly in 1XTBE compared to 1xTAE. I had a TBE gel stay good (opened to atmosphere) for 2-3 wks.

we have had both of these buffers (1x) for at least a few weeks, even 2-3 months.

and how many times can u use them to run a gel? i generally use them twice before discarding them... but is there a max. limit?

how does it affect the gel results?

I would use TAE or TBE for a couple of runs, atleast 4 runs. A colleague used to change TBE buffer in his gel chamber every week.
