Software used to create dot plots/charts for analysis? - (Apr/02/2007 )

Hi, can anyone tell me what type of software they use to make dot plots (such as the ones used to show antibody titer in several subjects). An example of a plot I'm talking about is this :

Can this be done in Excel or another standard graphing program? Thanks for the help.

It can be done in GraphPad Prism.

Do you know about any freeware programs where you can create such graphs? GraphPad Prism is free only for 30 days glare.gif

You can also use Excel - xy-scatter. Put all the values belonging to one group in a column and then activate ordering by column. You have to do a lot of changes in the layout to have it look fine, but it works. Or you talk to your boss to buy Prism - it's absolutely gold!

I would be surprised if you cannot manage it with SigmaPlot

Hi ksf, probably every standard statistic program with the possibility to design graphs will do the job. I know that you can use Excel, SPSS, SigmaStat, SigmaPlot and Prism for it. Which software o you have at hand?

Thanks for the help everyone. Unfortunately, all I think I have is Excel, and I guess I'm not that great at using it. I'm not sure how to get it to create multiple dot points that line up nicely per each category, as in the image... Can anyone tell me a bit more about how to do that in Excel? Also, can I make those median bars in Excel as well? Thanks so much for the help.

Hi ksf,

I made a sample diagram in excel - hope it is instructive for you.

Cheers, K.

oops, can't upload xls files. I'll try to PM.
