Pipettes use - (Mar/12/2007 )

Pages: 1 2 Next

Hi,

I have a problem in my lab. We have a role which consists in storing each pipettes and each time after its use at the maximal level. Nobody know the reason, but they accept this old rule. Anyone knows a possible or logical reason?

K.

I dont know why you are storing pipettes. We never store them.

That is doing to store pipette coil in relax condition. For its long live.

Are you saying that you are storing your pipette for longer usage? If you have so many pipettes to store, why not pass some to me? My labs are always lack of pipette. happy.gif Just joking.

How often do you calibrate your pipettes? We do it bi-monthly.

Do you think that it is worth?? You must use the pipettes many times each day...do you think is a good system to put each time of use each pipette at the maximal level??

i have used pipettes for many years without storing them at highest volume and don't seem to have any problem with them. and, yes, they do calibrate well (without having to replace piston springs on a regular basis).

Yes! I do so too and have no problem. If I check problem I make calibration. But with topic question about highest volume I think coil may be one of possible explanation

Hello! Mdfenko

Glad to see you on forum again!!

I thought storing of pipettes meant placing them somewhere in a safe place.

I don't think that this makes sense. If anything, the movable parts of the pipette might wear out if you change the volume all the time, which could lead to pipetting errors. Maybe the guy who "invented" this rule in your lab was referring to long-time storage, too.
