water quality control - (Feb/07/2007 )

Apparently, there's much more to DI water than we thought. My PI and I have been having trouble with our cells and one of her colleagues blames the water from the DI tanks so she asked me to get second opinions from different people.

Does that sound right to you? If we use the DI tank water (and autoclave it) should we also be doing endotoxin-testing w/ every batch of PBS we make? What about Millipore/Ultrapure type apparatuses? How do you guys go about quality control?

Do a search for this thread from the archives for all your water issues...

difference between distilled water and deionized water

("search" is in the top right hand area of your screen, in the lower menu bar).

are you making your own tissue culture reagents??! endotoxin is a major problem and there is no easy way to filter it out, even with 'nanopure' or 'ultrapure' water

It is much cheaper in terms of having healthy and happy cells when you need them, if you buy your media and PBS used for maintaining the cells
