Ethanol precipitation of protein sample - What is the protocol? (Dec/27/2006 )

Dear All,

I want like to precipitate my protein sample and resuspend it in PB. Actually, I donno if EtOH prepcipitation the fastest method. Can anyone help? What is the protocol of EtOH precipitation of protein? or I should use another method? Pls give me some hints.

better use methanol; should be in ca 4x excess towards protein sample

or you can use ice-cold acetone.

a combination of methanol and chloroform (f.i. protocol of Wessel and Flügge) is used to delipidize and precipitate, and is performed in two steps (1st step: MeOH + ClF, 2nd step only MeOH to precipitate)
