Expressing Viral glycoproteins in Mammalian cell-line? - (Dec/19/2006 )

I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestion for the suitable expression system for expressing viral glycoproteins in mammalian cell-line???
I came across lots and lots of different systems by different companies. Currently, I am drowned by these information and I really dunno how efficient are those systems.
Hmmmm......... I found that Invitrogen's Gateway Gene Expression system is quite interesting. However, I just wonder how efficient is this system? Anyone has used this system before?? Any comment from you about this system??? smile.gif

No comments about Gateway, but I was thinking that you might want to use the same organism's cells to express the glycoproteins. Different organisms glycosylate with different sugars, and viruses are usually host-specific, so you might want to be host-specific if you're interested in glycosylation of your protein.

Thank you for your reply, Swanny. Yes, I did take that into consideration but to start from scratch, I will try to express it in CHO cells, which was said to be easily handle. Later, when I have successfully expressed it, I will express it in the actual cells.
Prior to all these, I really have to get my expression system right. smile.gif
