an ORF.. - how wud u identify it in a given sequence..? (Dec/03/2006 )

hiyaaa!

can u tell me any specific features for an ORF.. that can b coding for a protein..

identifying the not-so idenfied proteins in the genome?

thanku:)

an ORF starts from ATG codon
also check for promoter sequences like that of TAATA box or others

there are programs available on net that identifies ORFs in the given seqn
for example at ncbi

hope this helps

thanks!

anything else..? the program doesnt say what it'll look for.. i wanna know that iin more details.

and can there b something like looking for non-identified proteins.. from possible ORFs.. from the genome.. i mean.. some hypothetical protein function from ORFs.. is there a possibility that such proteins may have function unknown yet..? anyone?

u can find out the programs details in published papers or sites
check the citation of programs

one of them is
Stothard P (2000) The Sequence Manipulation Suite: JavaScript programs for analyzing and formatting protein and DNA sequences. Biotechniques 28:1102-1104

try this one it explains a bit, its about finding genes
http://cmgm.stanford.edu/classes/genefind/

otherwise get the original references

ya its possible that there are hypothetical proteins and one can predict their functions
