mmm cool.gif a repeating pipette would be a good idea!!!! I'll try to get authorization for buying one of them!!!! dry.gif
Are they expensive?
thanks

Not really. They are rather cheap now. Avoid the middleman and buy directly from the manufacturer. You'll save lots of cash this way. It is the difference between paying £450 verses £170.

Biohit is one of the major manufacturers for electronic pipettes. Last time I checked, Biohit gives bulk discounts if you buy more then 5 electronic pipettes. You could try organising your department on a purchasing run.

The problem is that here in Mexico most of the time, you can’t buy to the manufacturer directly, because they are in other countries and there are some problems about it.. In addition, there are some problems about payment because of the payment-system in my company (I must send the invoice to the accounting department, and then, they transact the payment) … so, it’s easier buying to a middleman. sad.gif

we use Promega SV minipreps, they are ~$1 (US) per prep.

well when my lab was more funded as know, i use routinely it for my minipreps.
I saw the discussion, and i must confess my lab have an automatic pipett (from eppendorf). So the protocol i use use roughly same time as the matrix.
Inconvenient of the matrix is that after the elution from beads, you have to centrifuge (not boring) and then transfert the supernatant...

i use alkaline lysis method like fred. cheap and quick
my prof doesnt permit kit, even for RNA extraction sad.gif
