Yeast two-hybrid analysis - (Nov/18/2006 )

can Yeast two-hybrid analysis be used to analyse gene function or just proteins?

thanks

As far as I know a yeast 2-hybrid is only designed to identify potential interacting proteins...but the identification of interactions can give you a hint about functions. Just be warned that a 2-hybrid can be messy and just plain wrong. I wasted one full year chasing interactions implicated in a bacterial 2-hybrid.. they were all false positives. I now live by the motto: "Friends don't let friends do two-hybrids".
