Help! Jesus, I left my postdoc's samples out in RT for 5 hours....... - (Nov/14/2006 )

Hey guys, I was looking for frozen FCS etc. to make my cell medium this morning, in the same -20C drawer, there were 3 bulky polysteren boxes that belong to my postdoc...as they were on the top of those L-Glu, Pen-Strep..etc...so I moved them out of the freezer for a second (i planned it to be 30 secs and put them back....) But I forgot!! When I realised it, it was 5 hours later..

Inside were cAMP samples from T47D cells... and a few other samples for HPLC(I know she has done the HPLC ones)...not sure if those cAMP samples are gonna be fine .....Although the date was mid Oct...hopefully she has assayed them all and they are only left overs.......she has not told us about these yet,, and I dun do this assay.

We are both Aries girls....won't get on very well with each other.. I guess....she is on holiday now.....should I tell her......think I should when she s back the day after tomorrow....Geeeeee

Hating myself now..in agony... ph34r.gif

I would kill you if you would not tell me what happened and if I would spend time and time trying to do something about this samples, not knowing what happened.

about telling, yes she might be unhappy, but these mistakes can happen from time to time. She will forgive you. At least, it's more honnest to tell.

Sincerily, I would tell.

Leaving your own or somebody else's samples out of the fridge or freezer is a mistake. However, not telling your co-worker what happened is unethical. As a PI, I would tell you that it is your duty to tell what happened, whatever the consequences. And this has nothing to do with your religious or pseudoscientific beliefs.

-Gerardo-

Thanks Missele n Gerardo, yes, I know I ll definetely tell her in any case...

And I know the cAMP samples( like they were defrosted once)...wont be good for ELISA again......

sigh...lesson learnt

-Viola-

I agree -- as Gerardo points out, mistakes are mistakes, they happen to everyone. Hiding a mistake is a much bigger issue than the mistake itself...

-HomeBrew-

I think that, despite the human mistake, your sincerity telling what has happened will be very appreciated.

cAMP is not stable in solution especially at RT; (re-)assaying will be useless...

what are "Aries girls"?

I think she wants to mean the sign of the zodiac. Maybe two Aries are supposed not to get on very well. cool.gif
