Multiple transformation - How many plasmids is it possible to transform at the same time ? (Oct/28/2006 )

I'd like to transform several small plasmids (<2kb) at the same time in E. Coli. Does anyone know how many plasmids is it possible to transform at the same time, and what transformation would be most efficient for this purpose ?

thx, David

It is probably the types of selection markers that you can apply after the transformation the limiting factor. Also some plasmids are not compatible to others in E coli.

are you trying to get all the plasmids into one cell? that is where you may run into difficulties. if you just want an assortment of transformants, it will work fine, particularly if they have the same backbone...just like setting up a library, right? although I suppose few people make libraries anymore

I think if it is the second option, then a good way to insure many different transformants, is to do several transformations with a minimal amount of your DNA mixture in each
