How excess template can inhibit the PCR reaction? - (Oct/24/2006 )

It is well known that the excess of template can inhibit PCR reaction.
Anyone knows how is it work? Is depending on the gene which you are working?

I mean, because of my experiments it seems that there are inhibition when I'm doing B-actin PCR (housekeeping gene), but not with the other ones. Is it possible?

Thankyou

One explanation is that too much template can saturate your reagents.
