beta-actin in serum? - (Oct/04/2006 )

Hi,
This may be a strange question, but does somebody know if there is beta-actin in human serum?
Thanks!

I wouldn't have thought so. It's an intracellular structural protein.

Of course I'm willing to stand corrected.

I think only as a result of spontaneous necrotic cells in blood, so the amount of beta-actin should be very very low

i don't think it should be there. one possible explanation is that you may have sheared some RBCs when collecting the blood. this would release some cellular proteins into your serum. if that's the case, you can probably see hemoglobin too.
