Oxidation of HEPES Buffer Solutions - (Sep/20/2006 )

We routinely generate a waste HEPES solution that we would like to oxidize with UV light, ozone, or peroxide. We aren't sure how easliy this can done or what are the end products. Any experience with this? What we want to do is break the nitrogen bound so that the nitrogen becomes available for bacteria to nitrify.

mmmhhh...sincerely, i don't have any idea on how to release nitrogen from the degradation of Hepes buffer, but it sounds difficult to me...anyway, you could try enriching your buffer by letting nitrogen gas flow through it....hope it works!
